The Graham Hale Gardner Angel Award

During his twenty-two years of life, Graham Gardner inspired his parents, his caretakers, his teachers and countless others with his radiance and exuberant response to life.

Unable to speak or move on his own, he was most always on the go. With adaptive equipment, he loved to stand and move and dance with his mother, to ride in a jogging stroller around his hometown in all kinds of weather, and to ski, kayak and ride a tandem bicycle with his father. He went to school, traveled with his parents, and took part in the Weingarten Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program.

His mother has said that Graham made you feel "...like the sun shone on your whole being." His father has said those who helped Graham "...felt his love and became more loving themselves." They felt blessed.

To his parents, Graham was an angel.

In appreciation of Graham's incredible grace and heroic determination, we have established The Graham Hale Gardner Angel Award to be given each year at Set Sail to a participant or associate of the Weingarten Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program who exemplifies Graham's adventurous spirit and love of life.
