Rising Tides Place Hub Waterfront Sites at Risk

If Hurricane Sandy had hit Boston at high tide, the city would have seen 6 percent of its land underwater. That would have damaged every waterfront neighborhood and the Harbor Islands. But the new Spaulding facility is Charlestown would be safe - as its electrical systems are on the ninth floor, safe from flooding. Keeping in mind its close proximity to the Boston Harbor, Spaulding's designers kept these details in mind and have paved the way for citywide recommendations, based on climate change. Coming 2013

Construction of a new, state-of-the-art Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is now underway in Charlestown MA. Slated to open in early 2013, it will provide enhanced patient care and expanded treatment and research space.
