Clinical Harvard Medical School (HMS) Elective

Taking an elective as a fourth year medical student is one of the best ways to broaden your residency and get more out of your education and training. This experience is designed to add depth and perspective to an already rigorous and rewarding program.

Be part of something even greater

As part of your residency at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, you can receive course credit from Harvard Medical School by participating in a PM&R medical school elective. Offered to U.S. and International allopathic & osteopathic medical students in the last year of training, this four-week elective presents an amazing opportunity to grow as a practitioner and set the stage for future success for you and your patients.

Available HMS Elective Courses

  • Introduction to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Join small group interactive didactics, with clinical guidance and supervision, exposure to patient encounters, and daily feedback regarding clinical and presentation skills in patient service as well as acute care consults.

  • Pediatric Rehabilitation

Gain experience with families of children who have special needs. You’ll work to understand the pathophysiology of a variety of disabling conditions, and how to evaluate treatment options within a family centered care model in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
