The physicians of the Child and Adolescent Rehabilitation Program are specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation who have expertise in caring for children with complicated medical and rehabilitation needs. The treatment team may include pediatricians, pediatric nurse practitioners, and a child psychiatrist, as well as a child life specialist, an educational specialist, physical and occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists. A case manager is assigned to each child to coordinate discharge services.

Families are encouraged to actively participate in the child's rehabilitation. Parents are welcome to join their child during therapy sessions. One parent may also stay overnight with the child.

Team members develop an individualized treatment program to meet the medical, physical, psychological, social, and educational needs of each patient. Clinicians are careful to integrate a child's therapy program into daily activities. This helps to ease the transition to home and school. Additionally, our specialists emphasize ongoing communication with primary care and referring physicians.

Throughout the rehabilitation process, our team is dedicated to helping children reach their full potential.

The Lokomat - a computerized orthosis that provides gait training for patients with walking impairments. Spaulding is home to the only pediatric Lokomat in the country.

Assistive Technology Center - provides children with technology solutions to support mobility, communications, or cognitive-memory.

Dr. Charles H. Weingarten Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program - helps children build self-confidence and self-sufficiency, as well as to improve balance, muscle strength, and coordination.
