George Gougian
Executive Director
Mr. Gougian is the Executive Director at Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Center North End. He received his bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, followed by his master of public health administration, health care policy and administration from  American University in Washington, DC.

Mr. Gougian has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field, focusing on clinical care processes, healthcare regulations, reimbursement rules and personal management concepts.

Terrence O'Malley, MD
Medical Director for Non-Acute Care Services
Dr. O’Malley is an internist/geriatrician who specializes in the care of nursing home patients.  He graduated from Amherst College and Cornell University Medical College followed by training in Primary Care Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital.  He is on the teaching faculty at MGH and HMS, where he provides clinical care and supervises medical students, house staff and geriatric fellows. 

He is the Medical Director of Non-Acute Care Services for Partners HealthCare System, an integrated network and Pioneer ACO, where he focuses on improving transitions of care and the exchange of clinical information at transitions.  He is co-PI of an ONC Challenge Grant, IMPACT (Improving Massachusetts Post Acute Care Transitions), and is the lead for Evaluation.  This research is measuring the impact of the electronic exchange of essential clinical data at the time of a care transitions among acute and non-acute care sites on the utilization of healthcare services.

He co-chairs the Long Term and Post Acute Care Sub-workgroup within the Standards and Interoperability Framework at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and is one of the Leads of the Longitudinal Coordination of Care Workgroup which are creating a standard national data set for transitions of care to be part of Meaningful Use Stage 3 and the framework for the exchange of a longitudinal care plan. 

He has published numerous articles on transitions of care and quality measurement, and lectures frequently on these topic at the local, regional, and national level, 

Mara Aronson
Director of Nursing
Mara Aronson, MS, RN, GCNS-BC, FASCP, CPHQ, Director of Nursing for Spaulding North End, is a clinical nurse specialist with certifications in geriatrics and quality improvement, and is a fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.

She is the author of more than 60 articles that have appeared in peer-reviewed and trade journals, and on professional websites. She is also a peer reviewer for more than a dozen professional journals serving healthcare professionals from medicine, pharmacy, nursing and healthcare administration.

Ms. Aronson serves on the Committees and Boards of several professional organizations which serve health care professionals from medicine, pharmacy, nursing and healthcare administration.  For many years, Ms Aronson worked as an independent educator and consultant to healthcare organizations. 

Julie Litwinowich
Rehabilitation Manager 
Julie is the Rehabilitation Manager for Spaulding Nursing & Therapy Center North End.  She is an advanced clinician Occupational Therapist.  She has ten years of clinical experience, serving the Spaulding Network for six years.  Julie has clinical experience in Intensive Care Unit/Neuro Intensive Care Unit acute care, Rehabilitation, Skilled Nursing, and Outpatient care.  She has extensive experience in orthopedics, neurology, geriatrics, brain injury, vent weaning, and outpatient hand therapy.

Julie earned her B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Quinnipiac University. 

Kathleen McCarey
Kathleen McCarey is an ANCC board certified Family Nurse Practitioner.  She received her undergraduate degree in Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Lowell where she was an active member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.  She received her graduate degree in Nursing from the MGH Institute of Health Professions.  While pursuing her graduate degree she volunteered with the AmeriCorps providing a wide variety of health care services to the underserved population in eastern Massachusetts.

Her professional career as a Nurse Practitioner has been focused on providing primary, rehabilitative and end of life care for the adult and geriatric population.  In addition to her clinical role at Spaulding Nursing & Therapy Center North End, she is a Program Manager for MGH Senior Health working with interdisciplinary teams to improve the quality of care at various skilled nursing facilities in the greater Boston area.
