Maureen Banks, RN, MS, MBA, CNAA
President of Spaulding Hospital for Continuing Medical Care North Shore
Chief Operating Officer, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network
Ms. Banks is the President of Spaulding Hospital Cambridge, Spaulding Hospital Cape Cod, Spaulding Hospital North Shore, Spaulding Skilled Nursing Facilities, and Chief Operating Officer of Spaulding Rehab Hospital and the Spaulding Rehab Network. She has an extensive and varied background in nursing and healthcare leadership throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia and New Hampshire. Ms. Banks has held senior administrative positions in academic medical centers, home care and community hospitals. She has consistently held faculty appointments in both graduate and undergraduate programs.
Ms. Banks has been active throughout her career in professional organizations. At the state and regional level Ms. Banks is currently on the Southern New Hampshire University School of Nursing Advisory Board and has served in several capacities for the Organization of Nurse Leaders including President. At the national level, she serves on the AHA Board of Directors for Governance for Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation currently as the incoming Chair. Ms. Banks is on several community boards including ACCESO, a humanitarian organization building bridges between the people of Cuba and the United States.
Ms. Banks received her MBA and Advanced Certificate in Health Administration from Southern New Hampshire University as a Commonwealth Fellowship recipient. Her undergraduate degree is from Boston College and she holds a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut. As a nurse, Ms. Banks’ clinical focus has been oncology and hospice care. She is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executive and recognized as NEA-BC by the ANCC.
Mary Beth DiFilippo
Vice President of Operations, Director of Nursing, Executive Director of TCU
Ms. DiFilippo is the Vice President of Operations and Director of Nurses at Spaulding Hospital North Shore in addition to serving as the Executive Director of the Transitional Care Unit (TCU).
She has held various positions and worked in different healthcare settings over the span of her career including staff nurse in acute care, nurse educator in long term care, and most recently, before joining the Spaulding Network, as an Associate Chief Nurse at the North Shore Medical Center. She also teaches in the Nursing Program at Salem State University.
Ms. DiFilippo received her BSN from St. Anselm’s College, her MSN from Salem State College and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice Degree (DNP) from Regis College.
Charles Pu, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Charles Pu, MD is the Chief Medical Officer for Spaulding North Shore. Throughout his career, Dr. Pu has been an active member of the community, volunteering on advisory councils, ensuring quality patients care through Falls Prevention, Rapid Response, and Peer Review teams. He has led numerous symposia and given multiple lectures on varied topics from palliative care, aging exercise Christ heart disease as well as prevention and health promotion.
Dr. Pu received his BSE in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. His medical degree is from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and he completed his internal medicine and primary care residency at Mount Auburn Hospital.
Richard L. Zaniewski
Chief of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine
Richard L. Zaniewski, DO is the Chief of Rehabilitation Medicine for Spaulding North Shore. He has worked in rehabilitation for over 20 years, holding special clinical interest in general rehabilitation and post-polio syndrome.
Dr. Zaniewski received his medical degree from University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residencies at Union Hospital and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey
Director of Outpatient Rehabilitation
Mr. Diehl is the Director of the Outpatient Rehab Operations for the North and Boston Regions for the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. He has worked for Partners HealthCare System for 18 years, serving Massachusetts General Hospital for 4 years and Spaulding for 14 years.
Mr. Diehl has held both clinical and administrative positions ranging from a staff therapist to the Director of Inpatient Physical Therapy Department. He has worked with the management team to implement Spaulding’s change in service delivery model to become compliant with IRF requirements.
Mr. Diehl's clinical focus has been with orthopedics and spinal cord injury patients. He has worked on the intra-network management of orthopedic patients within the Partners HealthCare System to improve quality of care.
Mr. Diehl received his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Northeastern University. He also received his master’s degree in health management from Northeastern University. He is on the board of the Greater Boston Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Association.
Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation
Mr. Hannigan is the Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation at Spaulding Hospital for Continuing Medical Care North Shore and the North Shore Medical Center Salem. He has held various roles as at Spaulding North Shore throughout his career.
Starting as a staff physical therapist, he rotated to all the SNS units and throughout Salem Hospital. Mr. Hannigan moved to a supervisor role in the therapy department before finally taking the role as Director.
Mr. Hannigan received both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Northeastern University. His clinical focus has been with prosthetics and orthotics and cardiopulmonary patients.
