September 5, 2008
BOSTON- Since 2005, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Network has had its Race for Rehab fundraising program, captained by seven time Boston Marathon Champion mens wheel chair division, Ernst Van Dyk participate in the Boston Marathon. The team has raised over $185,000 dollars for Spaulding Rehabilitation?s programs and research. This year Spaulding is proud to announce that the Boston Athletic Association? has selected it as an official charity of the Boston Marathon Charity Program.

The official Boston Marathon Charity Program recognizes a select group of charities every year, providing each with entries to be used for fundraising purposes. In 2008, more than 1,200 runners represented the Charity Program's 24 organizations, combining to raise more than $11 million. The Boston Marathon Charity Program has now raised more than $85 million over the past two decades.

Spaulding will receive 15 race numbers as an official charity. This new partnership enables our Race for Rehab program to stand with some of the most visible charities in Boston. We fully expect that this new distinction will help our team achieve new levels of fundraising success for Spaulding and its patients, says Steven Patrick, Vice President of Development, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Network.
