RHCI's Trial Admission Program (TAP) is a short-term inpatient program that provides a comprehensive rehabilitation assessment for the person who is losing function due to a specific and well-defined neurological or other diagnosis but is not sick enough for admission to an acute care hospital.
TAP provides a four-day, multi-disciplinary assessment of the patient's medical, functional and behavioral condition. The team evaluates the patient's potential to benefit from rehabilitation and recommends a treatment plan and level of care to best meet the person's needs. Family participation is essential to the process. Since RHCI is a hospital, Medicare allows the qualifying patient to be admitted from the Emergency Room or home without a prior three-day hospital stay.
Appropriate diagnoses for TAP: - Parkinson's disease and/or movement disorders - Recent stroke with functional decline - Gait disorders due to a known cause - Recurrent falls due to a known cause - Multiple sclerosis - Brain or spinal cord injury with a need for specific skill training - Post-polio syndrome - Spasticity - Other diagnoses considered on a case-by-case basis.
