Spaulding Rehab Network Collaborates for Best Practices in Ortho, Neuro
December 15, 2009
Therapy representatives from Spaulding Rehab Hospital, Spaulding Hospital Cambridge, Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehab, Rehab Hospital of the Cape and Islands, The Boston Center, North End Rehab and Nursing Center and Clark House have been meeting regularly to identify best practices to improve clinical outcomes for patients with similar diagnoses.

Currently there are two initiatives underway. The Stroke/Neurorehabilitation tract is being led by Lynne Brady Wagner, MA, CCC/SLP, Program Director of the Stroke Program at Spaulding. The Orthopedic tract is being led by Chris Diehl, PT, MHP, Director of the Physical Therapy and the Musculoskeletal Program at Spaulding. The Orthopedic tract will begin with a focus on Joint Replacements and then move to trauma.

The teams have been meeting monthly to identify best practices, share patient education and resource material, compare staff competencies and create a resource for clinical information that can be accessed by all therapists in the Network. Information is shared with team members via a Sharepoint site.

There is also a secondary goal of a shared understanding of the continuum of rehabilitation and opportunities for functional recovery and growth beyond a specific level of care. The shared information and competency building will enhance rehabilitation practice itself and patient and family support and education across the network.
