Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital (SKRH) is proud to announce the acquisition of new Pressure Mapping Technology to help prevent and manage pressure ulcers as well as assist with proper seating systems.
This technology is particularly effective in the rehabilitation and LTAC setting, where patients are increasing their mobility and being evaluated for longer term seating systems. The system includes a pad that senses exact points of pressure attached to an LCD that provides a visual display. The system can pinpoint where there is too much pressure in one area and provide a dynamic display as the patient changes position.
SKRH clinicians are using this technology to determine the proper cushion for patient seating systems, as well as making custom changes to patients' seating to prevent skin breakdown. This technology can also be used in the patients' bed for head and heels, as well as an overall training tool for patients with decreased sensation in many areas.
Spaulding Boston has used this technology successfully, particularly with patients who have sustained a spinal cord injury or a brain injury. Both Spaulding and Shaughnessy offer this technology in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
