Overview
As an alternative to the acute in-patient setting, patients who are initially diagnosed and treated in an Emergency Department may qualify for direct admission to Spaulding Hospital Cambridge. Many patients have multiple diagnoses and require significant clinical intervention, situations which we are well-suited to handle. We have in-house physician coverage on a 24/7 basis, and can provide a wide range of expert acute medical care such as:

Cardiac monitoring
Chemotherapy administration
Dialysis
IV medication administration
Physical, Occupational and/or Speech therapy
Psychiatry
Respiratory therapy
Radiology, ultrasound and fluoroscopy.
Admission Criteria

The ED Transition Rehabilitation program is designed for adult patients over the age of 18. Additional admission criteria may include but are not limited to:

Cellulitis, DVT, COPD, pneumonia
Closed fractures
Multiple falls with medical comorbidities
Congestive heart failure, arrhythmias
Oncological diagnoses
Exacerbation of Parkinson's disease
Acute pain management.
