Neurology, Stroke and Brain Injury
Overview
A clinical affiliate of the Department of Neurology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, neurological/stroke rehabilitation at Spaulding Hospital Cambridge is led by internationally-known neurologist Michael Alexander, MD. The program offers care for individuals recovering from a wide range of conditions or injuries that impair brain or neurological function.

Physicians representing dozens of medical specialties are available, and treatment typically includes intensive medical and nursing care, physical, speech and occupational therapies, physical and cognitive rehab, educational programs, adaptive equipment, nerve blocks, brace and other adaptive services.

Admission Criteria

This program is designed for adult patients over the age of 18. Additional admission criteria may include but are not limited to:

Stroke, open or closed head injury, anoxic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord surgery or disease, or other neurological conditions requiring acute rehabilitation
Functional disability significant enough to require hospital-level rehabilitation
Need for active medical monitoring and intervention to maintain medical stability
Ability to participate in an active rehabilitation program.
