Dr. Witkower is a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of psychological disorders associated with medical illness, chronic disease and pain disorders. He is a Clinical Instructor in Psychology (Psychiatry) at Harvard Medical School and is a Clinical Associate at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Witkower holds an appointment at the Bedford VA Medical Center in Bedford, MA as a group therapy and research consultant.

In treating patients with psychological distress, his methods include self-hypnosis training, cognitive-behavioral therapy, individual and group psychodynamic psychotherapy and stress-management training. Dr. Witkower has presented extensively on chronic pain management, chronic illness coping and chronic opioid therapy for persistent, non-cancer pain.

Dr. Witkower has authored articles and chapters on topics including cognitive-behavioral therapy with neurological conditions and cardiac disorders and the behavioral assessment and treatment of pain disorders.
