Insurance and Billing Assistance

Our goal is to work collaboratively with you and your family, referrers, insurance companies and employers to make sure you have full access to all the healthcare and rehabilitation services available to make you well.

We accept most insurance plans – private and governmental – including Medicare and Medicaid. Most insurances cover rehabilitation services which are deemed medically necessary. Because every insurance plan is different, we recommend talking with your employer or your insurance agent to better understand your coverage, particularly about any out-of-pocket expenses you may incur, including co-pays and deductibles.

Cost should never get in the way of your recovery

We recognize the financial aspects of your admission and care can be confusing. During the admission process, we will assign an admitting representative to help you understand the financial implications of your stay. You will also have access to one of our Financial Counselors. He or she will help you understand your insurance, answer your questions and help you navigate financial options available to make your care possible.

Important Medicaid redetermination update

Medicaid (MassHealth in Massachusetts) has maintained members’ coverage and benefits due to continuous coverage requirements that started during the COVID-19 emergency. Starting April 1, Medicaid will return to its normal annual renewal process. If Medicaid has enough information to confirm your eligibility, your coverage will be renewed automatically. If Medicaid is not able to confirm your eligibility automatically, you will receive a renewal form in a blue envelope to the mailing address that is on file.

To avoid disruption in coverage, please visit your state’s website to ensure Medicaid has your most current information.

Mass General Brigham maintains information about health insurance accepted at Spaulding and other hospitals within the Mass General Brigham system.

  • Medicare enrollment, plans and providers

Find detailed information about Medicare coverage on the Medicare website.

  • Medicaid coverage options

  • Can I request a cost estimate?

Spaulding Rehabilitation, a member of Mass General Brigham, is committed to price transparency. Patients can contact Patient Billing Solutions or use our online tool to view a cost estimate of common health care services ("shoppable items").

  • CMS-Required Hospital Charge Data

As required by the federal government, we publish information (a machine-readable file) about the rates negotiated with insurance companies for all services and items offered by our hospital. The information is NOT an estimate of the costs that you are responsible for paying.

  • Your Rights and Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills

When you get emergency care or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, you are protected from balance billing.

When you see a doctor or other health care provider, you may owe certain out-of-pocket costs, like a copayment, coinsurance, or deductible. You may have other costs or have to pay the entire bill if you see a provider or visit a health care facility that isn't in your health plan's network.

Questions? We have answers.

Patients who would like to request a cost estimate for health care services at Spaulding can find more information about how to do so on the Mass General Brigham website. Please note: Managed care plans require pre-certification prior to admission.

If you have questions about a bill you have received or need to discuss your account, please call Mass General Brigham Accounts Customer Service at (617) 726-3884.
