Inpatient Physical Therapy Services
Physical therapy is a rehabilitation discipline specializing in evaluating, diagnosing and treating physical and functional impairments in patients of all ages. The overall goal of physical therapy is to improve mobility, strength, and functional ability, so that patients can reach their highest functional levels and optimal quality of life.
The Physical therapist is a member of the interdisciplinary team who works in collaboration with the patient, family and other team members to create a rehabilitation program specific to the patients’ needs. Physical therapy programs provided in the inpatient and outpatient setting and are customized, outcomes-oriented and designed with the patient’s goals as the central focus. Physical therapy can be provided for impairments caused by a variety of conditions including, but not limited to: orthopedic conditions, neuromuscular/neurovascular disorders, stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, cardiac disorders and complex medical problems.
Physical therapists use a variety of manual techniques, treatment modalities, advanced technologies and educational programs to help patients’ achieve their specific goals in rehabilitation.

Spaulding’s Physical Therapists have experience and advanced training in a variety of clinical and research areas. The interdisciplinary team model allows for ongoing education and collaboration with physicians and other rehabilitation professionals to ensure the best possible care for patients.
Physical therapists also benefit from over 100 active research studies at Spaulding to provide current, evidenced-based assessment and treatment. The Spaulding Rehabilitation Network also educates Physical Therapy students from universities across New England through a variety of clinical placements at our hospitals and outpatient centers.
As a member of Partners HealthCare, Spaulding physical therapists, as well as other clinical team members, work closely with their colleagues at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals.
