Arthritis Rehabilitation Program

TEST

Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in people 15 years of age and older. Both osteo-arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are chronic conditions involving joints of the body and related structures. Spaulding’s physical and occupational therapists help people with arthritis manage their condition.

Your arthritis rehabilitation program at Spaulding may include:

  • A comprehensive evaluation of your current condition and capabilities
  • Therapies to reduce pain and to improve mobility, strength, and flexibility
  • Custom splinting and bracing for joint protection and stability
  • Low-impact exercise programs
  • Education in joint protection and self-management of arthritis
  • Adaptive equipment and home modification recommendations

Approach to Care

The multidisciplinary teams at Spaulding’s outpatient centers look at the relationship between patients’ impairments and functional limitations, and determine how they will impact the ability to perform functional activities. Our teams perform objective measurements to track patients’ progress in treatment, and regularly reassess and modify care plans so that patients receive the appropriate treatment to achieve their goals.

Our approach at Spaulding goes beyond addressing pain. Our physical and occupational therapists facilitate lifestyle changes to enhance health and ability, empower patients to overcome physical limitations while reducing healing time of injury, and restoring independence. We strive to optimize function as effectively as possible and to promote return to an active lifestyle, whether it is competitive athletics, work, hobbies, or simply pain-free living.

Expertise

Spaulding is home to highly skilled therapists who regularly attend ongoing continuing education on a yearly basis to continue to update and advanced their skills. Spaulding physical and occupational therapists work closely with referring physicians and specialists to ensure effective progression of therapy.
